Morning all, I’m Nik, a County Court bailiff for HMCTS. I’m responsible for enforcing County Court orders. I’m looking forward to sharing details of my typical day – though no two are the same! #SpotlightSessions
Since the pandemic, the bulk of my work has been warrants of control (the recovery of goods or money) and attachment of earnings (these instruct employers to divert money from wages to pay a debt). #SpotlightSessions 1/3
I also support the family jurisdiction by serving urgent children act orders and non-molestation orders. We've seen an increase in these applications & orders since the pandemic began. These are a priority for us & are often done at short notice. #SpotlightSessions 2/3
All orders I deliver are done at the doorstep, and now always wearing a mask, in order to maintain social distancing during the #Coronavirus pandemic. #SpotlightSessions 3/3
On a typical day I usually travel into court at 7.30am & plan my work for the day. I prioritise judgments from foreign courts as these will have urgent deadlines; these can often dictate which area I visit that day. #SpotlightSessions
I spend most of my day on the road, driving anything from 10 to 120 miles. On any given day I might have between 20 to 30 warrants to serve. #SpotlightSessions
Did you know that as a bailiff I can also help people manage their debt? Most days I spend time talking through debts to get the best result for the claimant whilst understanding the debtor’s situation. #SpotlightSessions
I really enjoy being able to offer support to those in need and help people move forwards from a debt situation. It makes me proud to be the public face of HMCTS. #SpotlightSessions
Another area we deal with are possessions or evictions, however these are currently paused until the New Year. They can be challenging and sensitive at times. As a bailiff I try to treat everyone as an individual and never judge the debtor. #SpotlightSessions
