Day 1 of the season in the books, what stood out today:
-Sam Hauser & Trey Murphy make the very dangerous UVA team THAT much more better. They remain as well coached as anyone, but w/ adding scoring options and production waiting on the bench, watch out...
...I'm not going to overreact to Illinois beating NC A&T by 62, but...if Ayo Dosunmu's 5-of-8 day from beyond the arc is a sign of things to come, the Illini will be a top 5 team all season long. He shot 29% from deep as a SO after making 50 3's as a freshman at a 35% clip.
...my team of the day is Memphis. They picked apart Saint Mary's on both ends of the court. Moussa Cisse was effective on the glass/impacting shots & Boogie Ellis was fantastic off the bench. W/O the James Wiseman cloud surrounding the team, they will be better this year.
...Texas Tech did not lose a step with new faces in the lineup. The Red Raiders had each starter score in double-figures with Mac McClung's 20 leading the way. Sunday's game against Houston will be a fantastic measuring stick for both sides.
...Arizona State might have an impactful piece that few talked about in Taeshon Cherry. After 40 3PM (35%) two years ago, he only made 15-of-66 last year. Tonight he made 3-of-5, scoring 11 off the bench. The Sun Devils were another team w/ 5 in double-figures. Next up, Nova.
...Listed at 7'4", 285, Purdue freshman Zach Edey is the player today who I can't wait to see more and more of. In just 16 minutes, he scored 19 on 9-of-10 shooting. A large man who used his size to his advantage. https://twitter.com/CBSSportsNet/status/1331752116080304132?s=20
