This will be a beaut day of radio. Last year was amazing & I revisited multiple on-air discussions; learning something new each time. Truth is, these are conversations I& #39;ll NEVER hear on flagship shows on national or commercial broadcasters in Oz #IDPWD https://twitter.com/laurenbull_/status/1331715197577297921">https://twitter.com/laurenbul...
And that& #39;s because when there& #39;s a total lack of diverse representation within your structures and systems, people don& #39;t have the nuance and range to bring the depth and breadth required to hold certain conversations. And to do so without being disrespectful or invasive.
Which is not to say that community radio always gets diversity right but stations like @3CR make a concerted effort to critique whose voices are missing on a range of issues & actively engage with those communities to ensure stories are told on people& #39;s and communities own terms
It strikes me as so crass that the better-resourced media organisations who are in a position to get this stuff right, miss the mark on this basic point ALL. THE. TIME. Consultation is not that hard and letting folks tell their own stories on their terms isn& #39;t hard either
I say this not only in terms of guests, but presenters & producers too. When you have someone that brings a level of their lived experience to certain conversations & debates, your org& #39;s level of engagement & how you& #39;re perceived will shift in a way it won& #39;t if it& #39;s the same ol& #39;
