It COMPLETELY defeats the purpose of having mandatory mask and faceshields, and PPE suit for middle seat pax, if meals are served on shorter flights (less than 3 hours). Masks and shields are unnecessarily removed and mouths are open maskless, increasing COVID transmission risk.
On longer flights too, meals should be staggered so adjacent pax and rows eat at different times. This is basic common sense. No point in all the optics of masks, shields, and PPE if logic and common-sense not followed. Pax will not mind - it is for their safety and protection.
All claims of "safe" and "highest COViD safety standards" fall flat if they continue to serve meals to all pax even on short flights. These are not normal times. An airline brave enough to say "We will not serve meals on shorter flights to protect you better", will do well.
For all the use of buzzwords like "nimble, agile, innovative, digital" in Boardrooms, airlines seem stuck in the stone age when it comes to common sense measures in the cabin, seems hard to change traditional "service" mindsets. Forget machine learning. Need human intelligence.
