This album was inspired by the on-going, then one sided feud with Drake

Kanye wanted to do this project with Jay to one up Drake and Lil Wayne

It was meant to be a 5 song EP with songs like Power remix & Monster

If you’re not paying attention the truth will get lost

Jay raps about depression & issues with fame which sets up the perfect transition for solo songs like Holy Grail

Kanye is dealing with being slandered by the media
+ Gaga cancels her tour with him due to the Taylor incident

There’s plenty of heavy subject matter that can get lost with such great production

Kanye raps about the high murder rates in Black communities in Chicago

Hov raps about Black unity, fewer of us being in rooms / positions of power, & Fred Hampton’s murder on his birthday

Kanye calls Lex Luger & has a 2 hour conversation with him about beats

Kanye doesn’t tell Lex who it is & towards the end of the call reveals who he is & states he wants to work with him

Lex produces the first single called HAM (Hard As A MF)

HAM doesn’t get the reaction they wanted so it ends up being a bonus track

Kanye’s next idea was for every song to start with nigga so it forces all people to say it

Jay hates this idea but compromises for one song

Hov gave the ladies an Instagram caption with That’s My Bitch

“How could something so gangsta be so pretty in pictures?”

Hov celebrates the beauty of Black women & calls out their lack of recognition as icons

“Why all the pretty icons always all white...”

It wouldn’t be a Hov project without Beyoncé

She’s featured on Lift Off which originally had Bruno Mars on there as well

She’s also responsible for getting Frank Ocean on No Church and Made In America

The Superpower video reminds me of the No Church video

Reflecting on this album tells you exactly where Hov & Kanye would be next

MCHG was filled with luxurious raps about fame & family

Kanye was opening struggling & it went ignored

This album has all the red flags

Kanye raps

“Hello white America. Assassinate my character”

“Heard Yeezy was racist”

“I might even make him (son) be republican so everybody know he love white people”

The media turned him into a target & I feel this drove him towards wanting white acceptance

In another light, there’s fun moments with songs like Niggas In Paris & Who Gon Stop Me

Hov raps about happily escaping poverty & Kanye enjoys his threesomes with white women

They both share the come up from their view on songs like Made In America

Honest & Inspiring music

One of my favorites from the album is Why I Love You

This song was originally called Guilt Trip
Kanye ended up making another song with the same title for Yeezus

Why I Love You takes shots at former ungrateful Roc-A-Fella artists & could reflect Jay & Kanye today

20 Mill owed

Jay takes shots at Lil Wayne on HAM for having baby money

That’s wordplay on Birdman’s original stage name “Baby”

Hov gives niggas the painful truth on songs like Primetime

“At 42, I’ll be better than 24’s”

Another theme here is fatherhood

Beyoncé is pregnant but they don’t know what she’s having yet

New Day is a song for their sons but they both end up having daughters first

Kanye also raps about abortions haunting him & planned parenthood

We now know he’s anti abortion
