regarding the issues around calling sapnap’s music taste bad; a thread

[please read!!] /srs
i want to start off by saying i will always use my platform to educate and inspire those that i can. recently this has been a big issue regarding sapnap and the music he listens to, specifically music made by black artists.
issues concerning black people will always be important to me. that is why i am making this thread. i’m making this thread to hopefully stop some of the microagressions presented against black people in this community.
this isn’t a thread made to harm anyone, it’s simply for the purpose of education. it is not to bash anyone, and it is certainly not to bash sapnap’s spotify account whatsoever, they just post the music.
lastly, as always, please do not speak over black people. because this IS a racial issue. do not speak on behalf of black people, do not give your negative opinion if you are not black. this is a learning opportunity.
WHAT’S THE ISSUE?

recently, in the comments of sapnap’s spotify there have been some discomforting things. every time sapnap would listen to a black rapper, the comments would be “get new music” or “middle school white boy music 🤮” or something along those lines.
however, when sapnap would listen to someone like lil peep or quadeca, the comments would be much different. here are some screenshots for comparison. the ones with lil peep and quadeca are positive, and the ones with people like 21 savage, or roddy rich are negative.
now what’s the issue with this? a lot of music made by black rappers has been coined as “bad taste” and receives a lot of negative backlash for it. you can argue that it’s a “preference” but a lot of the times, white rappers don’t receive this type of negative backlash.
black music itself has constantly been looked down upon since the beginning of time. it’s called “ghetto” it’s called “ratchet” simply for the fact that it’s made by a black artist. these stereotypes have evolved into the microagressions that we see presented today.
you have to realize that rap + hip hop were invented by black people. the music industry + music genres as we know it were heavily influenced by black people. it’s not fair for you to praise a nonblack person, and not the black person for doing something that was invented by us.
it is not our fault that white people have gentrified black music, and manipulated it to the point where it’s only acceptable when presented in the style of a white artist. it’s not fair that rap that was originally made from black culture, has been taken and used by white people
to fit their standards within the music industry. it’s extremely hurtful to black people to see music that is special to them be looked down upon and get called “bad taste” constantly. simply because of the negative stereotypes that have been placed upon it.
it is not our fault that black music has been coined “white middle school boy music” which that within itself is disgusting, because its being used to represent something that isn’t even apart of black culture. black music is NOT “white middle school boy music”
yes i understand that people have “preferences” but a lot of the time music made by black rappers is automatically coined as “bad taste” because it has this negative stigma behind it that black people themselves didn’t even put on it. it is not our fault.
again black music has always been looked down upon because of blatant racism. now that the world is evolving, this blatant racism has evolved into microagressions. it may not SEEM racist, but the same ideal is still there. looking down upon black music.
you guys constantly, and i mean CONSTANTLY try to make sapnap black. you force AAVE onto him, you force black culture onto him, you draw him darker than he actually is. but you draw the line with music? it’s like you want a black cc without the actual struggles of being black.
music made by black artists is NOT “middle school music” or “white boy music” it is music that has a culture and meaning behind it. and the fact that so many of y’all are trying to force him to change it and just shitting on this type of music is disgusting. it needs to stop.
everyones entitled to their own opinion, however when it comes to microagressions against black people it’s not. you can genuinely not like some of the music he listens to, however you take it too far when you’re enforcing these negative stereotypes about black music.
not everyone is going to like the same things you do and that’s fine. you guys take the music he listens to waaaay too far sometimes. and the line has to be drawn somewhere. stop coining rap music made by black artists as “bad taste”. it’s exhausting.
if you genuinely have a preference, that’s fine. but that’s not what i’m talking about. a lot of people in this situation don’t have “preferences” they just automatically shit on black rap music.
again, this is an education thread and not meant to harm anyone. i am simply writing this in hopes that people will read, and stop engaging in the actions that they’re doing. if you’re down here, hi! i hope you’re having a good day/night! :)
