I have mixed feelings about people traveling right now. A lot of colleges are letting out for the semester right now, so students and faculty and staff have a long break, meaning they’re not just popping somewhere for a weekend.
And students especially might have no where else to go. A lot of universities close the dorms or require students to pay extra to stay over break.
But I’m sure there are plenty of people traveling just to have a meal tomorrow that could be spreading a deadly disease. It just doesn’t seem worth it to me.
In a normal year, health care workers sacrifice what regular people consider sacred days off to be there if you carve your hand while carving the turkey or burn your eyebrows off while trying to deep fry a bird.
This year they’ve given sooooooo much, and it just seems so selfish to think you need to be in a specific physical location to celebrate a holiday. Because it’s health care workers who will be the most affected by the churn going on over this weekend.
I think people that have never missed a family holiday are just so spoiled. It’s something that happens to most adults, circumstances happen so you have to miss a holiday one year. It’s not a big deal.
Think about people that had to miss holidays in the past.. they hoped to get a letter to family in time, or so grateful they could make a phone call. We can open up computers or phones or tablets and see our family instantly. And that’s not good enough?
The scariest part of this virus is the strange mishmash of symptoms. How some people can be completely unaffected and others die. But no matter the severity, you can pass it to others.
I probably won’t change any minds in this thread, but maybe, maybe, if one person reads this and decides to stay home this weekend, it will have been worth it.
