The neighbor came over and knocked on our door the other day which was shocking, because a) he is very shy and b) it is coronavirus time
He was cleaning out his Christmas stuff because apparently he loves Christmas so he has too much stuff, & would we like some? He was masked and nice and said I& #39;ll leave it right here on the porch from a respectful distance. We had a nice talk and I said sure and he left.
He& #39;s always been nice but very shy, and that& #39;s fine! Once his family came to visit him and somehow got stranded in front of his house while he was at work and they had two children and no key to the car or house, so I offered them all a ride to his work
to fetch said keys, and they were shocked that I offered and had enough car seats and we all had an odd bonding experience as I drove them to his work, and they were like, this is like really nice, it& #39;s kind of weird, and I was like, neighbors should do neighborly things!
And since then we& #39;ve all gotten on well without making anything crazy out of it, because he& #39;s kind of shy and that& #39;s fine. And that& #39;s the situation. We all wave! I love living here!
So he shows up, and kindly gives us a bunch of Christmas decorations, and I get out the sanitizer and clean it all up and the kids and I have a blast decorating our house w/ all this new-to-them stuff. Cool.
But then one day later an additional piece of Christmas decoration appears on our side of the border betwixt our two yards and I& #39;m like
oh my god y& #39;all, babes, @curiousquail, children, EVERYONE, OH MY GOD
is he the one who has been leaving strange things in our yard for YEARS? WERE THEY ALL GIFTS AND HE WAS JUST SHY?

Spoilers: yes. YEARS. YEARS Y& #39;ALL.
Y& #39;all who have been following us for a while and have seen the litany of strange things that have appeared in our yard; it was our neighbor. He is nice but shy. He was leaving them as presents all along!!!! IT HAS BEEN SO STRANGE!! But now also, y& #39;know, very sweet.
My biological mother stalked and tried to kill me, so I get really jumpy about things like...random gifts in my yard. Or phone calls from numbers I don& #39;t know. Or middle-aged white women who look vaguely like her at the supermarket. Or loud noises!
When your mom tries to kill you, you get weird! It& #39;s just how it shakes out. I& #39;m super weird! My relationships to other humans sometimes struggle under the weight of my fear that everyone wants me dead! But this whole time the weird yard gifts were just from the dude next door!
A nice dude, who doesn& #39;t interact super well with other people. I get that!! I DON& #39;T EITHER, Y& #39;ALL. I CAN TOTALLY UNDERSTAND THIS UNIVERSE A LITTLE BETTER NOW THAT I KNOW.
So @CuriousQuail and I have been struggling to make it through this pandemic. Financially we are spending every penny of every check just keeping the lights on, and barely making it through to the next one. My salary is gone and it& #39;s been hard.
So I was like, should we stop paying for a cut tree every year and get one of those white and pink fake ones? And we talked about it and agreed to go pay for the damn tree using literal stacks of scraped-together change if need be, because we like picking out a fresh tree
and the smell and the tradition and the whole thing. Okay. BUT THEN!
the next day the neighbor
Came over
with a white and pink fake tree as tall as @curiousquail!!!!!!!!!!!!!
And we& #39;re still gonna get a fresh tree but now we have this beautiful tall glittering gift tree for now and @curiousquail was like "dude if we had a different and less trusting relationship i would& #39;ve thought you set this up"
and i& #39;m like "I SET AN INTENTION AND SUMMONED A GLITTERING TREEEEEEE!"
I SPOKE IT INTO THE UNIVERSE AND NOW IT IS HERE
So I was kind to the neighbor, the neighbor was kind in return, everything lately has kind of been an unceasing hellscape of pandemic and depression but neighborliness is nice and my faith in humanity kinda needed a win so it& #39;s good
Okay the end I love y& #39;all hooray for kindness and all of us people just doing our best, bumping up against other people who are doing their best, forever and ever (except not literally bumping right now because pandemic, don& #39;t go near other people, okay bye)
