I went to a thrift store this week and bought a load of cds. I never really stopped buying cds but genrally only used ones as it's a fairly low risk outlay playing the roulette of buying something you don't really know or haven't heard..
Anyway one of this weeks pickups was a record by the band "And You Will Know Us By The Trail Of Dead.." who I own one record by already. As I slid it in the cd player in my car this feeling washed over me that I had forgotten about.
I remembered the euphoria associated with playing a new record in a phsycial sense. Press Play and see what comes out in the order it was intended to play, designed by the designers of that sound. Since consuming single tracks digitally I'd forgotten that feeling.
Anyway this is a love letter of sorts to the cd. I used to buy 5 every week with my paycheck when I was younger and they were usually $25-50 each. Felt that same euphoria every drive home from work on a Friday and I'd forgotten about it. I missed that.
My next adventure involves putting a lounge chair next to my AV setup with some headphones and a blindfold. Phone off. Listen through with no skips. It's harder than you think. I was never remotely A.D.D but digital media consumption has infected us with it 🤔
