I have more to say about this so @EW please listen up. The c*w does have lots of other shows with queer characters that are all young, sexy, and established as queer early on. They do this to make sure no surprises and so audiences can decide right away whether to watch or not.1/ https://twitter.com/bluestar861/status/1331730445516607488
They don't take risks. The queer characters barely get beautiful built up love stories or slow burns because they can't risk their straight viewers feeling "betrayed" by *surprise gays* later on. This may be considered progressive but when you really look at it, its not. 2/
Truly progressive stories should take beloved well established characters and let them find their own paths. Let them come out in their own time, and let their stories not have anything to do with being queer. This is why Cas coming out was so HUGE. 3/
This is why Dean Winchester has always been a problem. He and Cas are not young, sexy lesbians. They are middle aged macho dudes who on the surface act pretty straight. They dont meet the c*w template for "queer characters" hence the risk was too great to let Dean speak. 4/
But Destiel wrote itself and became too big to ignore. They greenlit it, then got scared because they didnt want the straight dudebro s*pn audience to feel "betrayed" at Dean coming out and risk losing them when they need that audience for Walker. 5/
I am so confident that this is what happened, and is why Dean was censored and the finale butchered I would bet all my life savings on it. It was a mix of homophobia, fear of losing homophobic viewers for Walker, and fear that a risk wouldn't pay off that silenced Dean. 6/
So please don't dismiss our claims because "they have other lgbtq characters". Its not the same. Dean wasn't a "safe" queer character, even though his journey, and his love story, was the most profound and beautifully crafted narrative in TV history. Up until 15x18 of course. 7/
They destroyed Dean's story, and silenced him at the last minute, leaving us with a clunky mess of an ending, because of homophobia and fear. And no amount of sexy young lesbians in other shows is gonna change that. #TheySilencedThem #TheySilencedYou
