The revealing statistic in this story, https://n.pr/3eDReDR , is that over 70% of members of @Ch_JesusChrist voted for Donald Trump for President. The only religious group that voted for Trump in a higher proportion were white evangelicals. So what are we to make of that? 1/
I don’t believe 70+% of LDS Church members are evil. But it’s very clear that 70+% of them are comfortable voting for and supporting an evil man. For example, supporting a man against whom credible allegations of sexual assault have been brought by close to two dozen women. 2/
Over seventy percent of them wanted to see a dedicated, habitual liar lead our country for another four years. And, apparently, his narcissism, treason, racism, corruption, cruelty, and authoritarian ambitions were not sufficient to deter these LDS Church voters. 3/
Seventy percent plus of LDS Church members support a man who has demonstrated he has no understanding of or commitment to our Constitution, an individual who measures the value of everything that happens in the world based only on how it affects him. 4/
In short, it’s hard to think of a better example of an individual whose character is the complete opposite of the worthy ideal of any Christian religion, any reputable religion of any type, than Donald Trump. And the great majority of LDS Church members are good with him. 5/
Now if 35% of my co-religionists voted for Donald Trump, that would be sad. If 50% of fellow Mormons voted for him that would be alarming. But over 70%? What are we to think of the people and leaders and teachings of such a Church? 6/
That ignorance and a lack of critical thinking skills prevail? That while their lips may draw near to Christ, their hearts are far from Him? That while their scriptures encourage them to support and elect good, honest, and wise people, they actually do the opposite? 7/
The way the great majority of people in my religion voted in this election has left me sad beyond words. The vote for President of the overriding number of LDS members simply cannot be reconciled with the principles of the restored gospel and the teachings of the Savior. 8/
We cannot prioritize what we think may be good for our selves at the expense of the community as a whole and believe it aligns with gospel principles. Even if members of @Ch_JesusChrist did not feel comfortable voting for Biden, voting for Trump should have been impossible. 9/
Many friends and loved ones have left the Church recently. Sadly, that will continue. There are many reasons people opt out. But to the extent exiting is tied to the toxic expectation of political conformity that often exists in @Ch_JesusChrist culture, I don’t blame them. 9/
The overwhelming support of Donald Trump by Mormons is an unequivocal indicator that there are many things deeply amiss in today’s LDS Church and its culture. It has made me feel estranged from my people, the people I have loved. 10/
My relationship with the Church, its members, culture, and leaders is separate from my personal relationship with God and Christ. The latter is strong. But our relationships with each other in our religion are not easy to dismiss or to separate from our relationship to deity. 11/
So what's clear to me, and I think should be clear to any person who is reasonable and informed by accurate information, is that the great majority of LDS Church members supported an evil man for President. #utpol

There is one small silver lining to this very dark cloud. 12/
It is that our youth see Trumpism for the poison that it is in much larger numbers than our older Church members and they reject it. My hope is that they leaven rather than leave the Church.

I know life carries on and on and on. But right now, I grieve. 13/13
