Time for a thread
For the most part, I'm a hermit. I don't do much socially. I also have a really great job that I love, with really great people. There are two things I look forward to all year long: https://twitter.com/nowthisnews/status/1331604301836210176

1.) Towards the end of the year we have to work a lot harder than usual. Sometimes we have to work around the holidays. My company usually offers us a choice to pick up shifts around the holidays and earn bonus money above what we normally make, or, we can take the time off
All my family is out of state, so I usually pick up as much extra time as I can. In addition to the extra money, I also get floating PTO that I can use later. I almost always use the extra time and money to pay for a vacation the following year
This year, due to pandemic stress (I guess?) they're encouraging management to give us the time off instead. So I'm getting time off when I can't use it, and no extra money. I don't need the money, but it was just nice to have.
2.) We have a really amazing holiday party every year. They rent out a hotel ballroom, there's amazing food, free booze, it's great. Plus, I sincerely like the people I work with and it's one of the few times of the year I get to socialize with them and we don't have to talk shop
So, in my mostly boring life these are the two things I really look forward to every year for the past eight years or so. And like so many people, I'm not getting to enjoy things I like because we live in a society of selfish motherfuckers who can't be told what to do
Eight goddamn months I've been staying in my apartment, wearing a mask, socially distancing, doing every damn thing I'm supposed to do. And for the same eight months, a significant number of people have just been doing literally whatever the fuck they want to do
These people, who have spent zero percent of the past eight months quarantining, wearing masks, socially distancing, and now they point at the last eight months as "proof" that these things don't work. They haven't worked because half the country refuses to do it
There is no point to this thread other than me venting my frustration at these utterly selfish assholes, who have spent the past two weeks being PROUD that they are going to travel to see their families, telling people "I'd like to see anyone try to stop me"
Ten days from tomorrow, we're going to see unprecedented spread of the virus. Hospital systems are already on the verge of collapse. I am honestly dreading December, which is usually the happiest month of my year, because of the impending death and destruction we're about to see
All because we have a completely useless government, that is governing a country of selfish assholes that only think of themselves. We've restructured our economy around these people. And it won't be enough. It's never enough for these people.
That word- selfish- have I used it enough? Because that's what you are. If you're one of these people on one of these planes that was advised not to travel right now, but you did it anyway: from the bottom of my heart, sincerely, fuck yourself.
Hopefully next year, or the year after that, the vaccine will be in place and COVID will be a memory but folks, I'm never going to forget this experience and I promise you that I will never stop resenting the people who brought it on us.
Enjoy your thanksgiving.
