Weird things in the world's railway that just don't make any sense - thread 2. (Japan)
Yeah, I'm definitely gonna roast this.
1. Orientalism, bowing, pocket watch, and "DiScIpLiNe" worshiped by the westerner. Just look at this SWR Eisenbahn-Romantik train wreck. You can find every thing I mentioned.
And do you know that strict discipline caused mental illness among the train drivers? The on-time culture is so toxic it even caused a devastating accident? Google Amagasaki Rail Crash.
Now we're talking.
2. The average Japanese "Corporate Simp" train spotter and passenger.
When body challenged sued JR-Kyushu, the above mentioned railway company, so rosy-eyed by the SWR Eisenbahn Romantik, what did they do?
Of course they let the Corp. simp™ to start a victim-blame shitstorm
3. No-bidding. Buying new is just straight out nepotism.
The Big 3 rail operators have their own rolling stock manufacturing facility. And buying abroad is considered unpatriotic. European makers couldn't even stand a chance on entering the market en masse

4. Contrary to US, too Pax focused.
No, only intermodal is found on Japanese railways.
I can understand the merits of island nation sea shipping, but only few container trains? And specified containers? Good lord.
5. the network of trains built by JNR, is gradually cut into specific stretches of shuttles.
Sleeper trains with good loading figures, non-Tokyo centred express trains are being cut to bare bone.
Traveling between big cities is dream, but from small cities is a nightmare.
6. Targeting gradually towards tourism and the wealthy
And what do they compensate? Luxurious trains targeting at the wealthy.
If you want to night travel at a fair price, coach bus is the only way out.
And they even retired a relatively new trainset for the "convenience".
6. The obsession with traditional practice.
Japanese mainlines are constructed with the track centre distance of 3.8 m, later 4 m. Their tunnel bore is usually way bigger than the loading gauge. X-loading-gauge is possible.
And they still do not want to convert the 1067 mm gauge.
7. And this Giant tumor, called Kasai Yoshiyuki.
Imagine UKIP leader is the boss of BR. Simple as that.
He himself, using the slimy tactics of office politics, caused the downfall of several rail unions, consequently privatised JNR.
And Japanese treat him as Hero.
8. If natural disaster like in 2011 did a line unfortune and caused its pausing of operation?
The railway company would use the line, the lifeline of local citizens, as a bargaining power for more funding.
