Okay here goes, attempt number 2: BAR Weekend: A Thread:
So the first event of the weekend was Singles. A 3.3km race around PEG Farm with 20 obstacles and carries
Ok here we go, so it started off with a run to the 4ft wall, then more running to the crawl, then a sandbag carry. After that, you had to scale two 8ft walls and then we reached the inverted wall.
oh yeah, so Darren, the eventual winner had already slipped the field by the time we got to the 4ft wall, Jet the 2nd placed was in semi pursuit and the Thompy was 3rd behind Jet. The rest of the field, well we were hanging on for dear life while hunting Thompy: Inverted Wall
So we come off the inverted wall, run to the tyre wall which I finally conquered, across the monkey bars and make it to the grips. I have no idea how close the other are behind me, I'm just hearing footsteps and feet hitting walls... Dame Dash and I catch Thompy on the grips:
From the Grips, I jog, Thompy runs and Damion (aka Dame Dash) sprints! to the slick wall. It is a wall coated in squeezy which is constantly reapplied by the Marshalls you can hear the naysayer in the background saying "Salt caan get up there running like that" ... (other angle)
From the slick wall it was a run over to Zone 3, where we did the rings, the low traverse bar, a crawl through some pipe and then picked up the atlas stone and carried it forever. This is where I lost contact with Damion and Thompy cause they are so good at carries. #goals
Look at the difference: struggle vs comfort.

Also don't help that I coming in at 130 lbs carrying a 95lb Atlas stone... but ya gotta do what ya gotta do.
From after the atlas stone it was no longer about catching Dame and Thompy and more about not getting passed out, I was fully gassed in the gully and Phil 7 passed me before the rope climb and climbed the cliff face and was out and onto the last obstacle before me: Dive Platform
Across the line, 6th in my heat, 8th overall. I ran the cleanest race of my life, but not the smartest one. I still have no real regrets though and no time for regrets because I had to go home and bathe and change into my dibby shorts for Open Wave in less than 3 hours.
So we're back for the Open Wave, Team Suga With A Pinch of Salt! Open Wave is a 6k team race with obstacles and carries, with the option to do 20 burpees each if you cannot get through with an obstacle. The 4 person teams can have any make up ours was 3 ladies and a Dibby Salt
So it started off with a run, then a 4ft wall, then down Cotton Tower to collect 2 sandbags per team which had to be taken back up to the top, then all 4 of us had to find a way over a 10 foot wall, then through a crawl, carry 2 logs then an 8ft wall and head to the inverted wall
Ignore the bassa bassa in the background of the previous video if you choose to or be entertained by the behind the scenes of Obstacle Course Racing. After the inverted wall is the Human Pasta Maker aka the BIrth Canal: Sugs with A Pinch of Salt Coming Across the Himalayas
By now I know this is the most fun I am going to have all weekend! And I am having a blast as we head to the Monkey Bars. 2 persons per team have to cross so it is Chinese Kim and I
From Monkey Bars we run to the Slick Wall, I ran up first and made sure they all got. to the top, but the probably didn't even need me anyway cause them matching shoes was wukking!
Team Suga with a Pinch Of Salt in his sexy shorts running from the Slick Wall to Zone 2, the rings and the best moment of my weekend
So two people have to succeed at the rings or you have to do burpees to continue. We knew Kim could get them done but we also knew she wasn't 100% confident doing them given tha we hadn't had much practice with them at that height and distance: Attempt #1: ❌
'Twas a scary moment , you can see her at the end of the video asking if we should just do the burpees.. told her nah, go again and watched her technique closer. Attempt #2: ❌
Realised what she may have been doing wrong and just gave her some tips: Get ya momentum, use the back arm to pull back, trust your training and use the Chinese Kick!
Attempt #3: Flawless!!! It was like something out of a movie, everybody was cheering louder every time she grabbed another ring and pulled through! Ring that mawwwwwfricking bell Kim! 🔔
After the rings we head over to the low traverse bar: You have to get across from one side to the other without touching the ground Kim is an absolute snake or lizard or something so on these... I'm just a child at heart 🐒 #LightWork
Immediately after was the bucket carry, was like 500m or so. Nikita and Naomi were like "we got this!" and got that they did! #EqualRights if the ladies want to carry the buckets I have no objection! Love it!
After the bucket we head on down into the gully, do the rope climb and climb up out of the gully and hit the dive platform. For this, all 4 people have to climb up one side and down the next, then 1 person climbs up the next side rings the bell and all 4 exit the pool and finish!
So what had happened was... when I climbed down and the green team was still in the pool I felt like we had a chance to beat them and for a second I forgot I was in Open Wave for fun and it got competitive.... still slightly shame every time I watch the end of the video
GET OUT THE POOL! 🙈🙈🙈
Finished! Had such a blast running with Kim Naomi and Nikita. 2 Races done and dusted. Coming back tomorrow for the 10k Competitive wave.
Oh but first... Tipsy Breakfast Party: Served, yeah had to go and put in a shift with the Twisted Family! 10am - 12 Noon! Raw Gas! 🔥
Because when @misspauwrites wrote that BAR Weekend looks like Crop Over for fit people she didn't know how on the nose she was!
Soca Lover 2 hands in the air!
Jackass Salt came all the way out like he didn't know I had a whole competitive wave to run in the afternoon! However I cannot treat my musical passion and first love like a step-child. Entertaining is my life!!!!!!
So, home bathed, dressed and ready for Day 2 of BAR. Competitive Wave, the big one, 11k of obstacles and carries from PEG Farm, Down Horse Hill, Through Joe's River Forest, Back Up Horse Hill, Back Up Cotton Tower Hill and Back onto PEG for more obstacles. Teams are 2 men 2 women
So starts off with a near 2 k run from PEG Farm to the bottom of Cotton Tower Hill, back up Cotton Tower with 4 sandbags per team, and you can't help each other. Once all 4 sand bags are on top Cotton Tower you descend for 2k to the roundabout in Horse Hill where you do a 200m...
... parnter carry, 100m downhill, 100m uphill. Now with your legs on fire you run further down horse hill to the entrance of Joe's River Forest, where you pick up 2 logs per team and carry them 500m up hill, you can share the logs. Nick carried his all the way alone. #Beast
From there you run through the forest which is about 1 mile, exit the forest and start climbing back up horse hill back to PEG Farm. On the way you stop at the basketball court where one team member has to make a free throw before you can move on.
Climb cotton tower, get all 4 of us over the 10 ft wall then over the 6ft wall, then we go over the A Frame obstacle, do a crawl and then 2 people are nominated to carry and atlas stone... I know this is a lot of reading but we getting to the good part, stick with it....
.... or just close the thread and move on I don't care, after the atlas stone it is the 8ft wall, then the inverted wall and then the double tyre wall. Here it is close up, now you see why I call it the birth canal...
After that was the monkey bars. Nick technique on this is superior! I realise I do everything differently! Warning "Filmed with a potato"
From the monkey bars to the grips! Was worried about these all season! Managed to get through them fairly decently!
btw I was cramping from the 10ft wall but I was too shame to tell my teammates cause I went doing open wave AND partying like I ain't make a commitment to them. By now though we were hearing that other teams were struggling and we had a chance!
From the grips to the slick wall. Now there is a little wrinkle in the slick wall for competive, the 4ft wall is placed right in front of it so that you can't just build momentum and run up it even though some people aka Chadwick were able to it is about strategy: 1st Attempts ❌
Finally we were able to find a way up the slick wall and we were off (I promise I am soon finished, I already see people commenting saying "this was a good thread"... negro I ain't done yet!)
Headed over to the rings and traverse bar from there! 🐒 🐒
From the Traverse Bar it was the 900m PVC (filled with sand) carry. We were all cramping and struggling but we knew we had come too far to stop. We knew the plan and we knew once we picked up that pipe we were in it for the long haul...
Nikita and Kim from my Open Wave team cheered us all along the way!!!! So grateful. We had to walk back up the main road and we were blocking traffic so that is who I apologized and thanked them for their patience cause we was keeping them back from getting in to see the action
btw notice in the previous video how it is those two incredible ladies I have for team mates who are carrying the pipe! By the time they gave us it back Nick and I were able to jog home with the pipe and look like we real real strong 😆
So we put down the pipe, 2 more obstacles and a cliff face to go! Down into the gully for the rope climb! Prepare yourself for potato photage and bad words
Footage* getting sleepy lol. So we got up there and it was just to climb out the gully and do the dive platform! I knew it was over, I knew we had done everything we set out to accomplish but again, the competitive spirit kicked in cause I knew we had put together a special run
Across the line for the last time. NovemBAR Race Weekend 2020 was a blast. So much vibes and fun. 8th place in the Singles and 7th place in the Competitive. 3 open wave ladies smashing goals and 1 fete flattened. I had a bawl. Thank you, and good night. BAR - Brutal As RH.
