tw suicide death
a full list of supernatural's lgbtq characters and everything that's happened to them
corbett
corbett was a minor character in 3x13. he was a part of a ghost hunting team where he was in love with one of the other members of this team. he was stabbed in the throat and died on a hunt. they never mention whether he remains a ghost or moves on to an actual afterlife.
lily baker
lily baker was another single episode minor character. she was in 2x22. it was mentioned she'd accidentally killed her girlfriend with her special ability, and she died by being hung (jesus FUCKING CHRIST)
max banes
okay, i don't even really remember him being canonically openly gay but that might just be my bad memory. max banes is a witch from season 12, appearing in 12x6 and 12x20. max doesn't die, but his twin sister does and his soul is condemned to hell for his powers.
barnes + demian
these two only ever appeared in 5x9. they go to a supernatural convention cosplaying as sam and dean, and at the end of the episode reveal that they're a couple. they both survive, but they're never mentioned again
jesse + cesar cuevas
this is one of the few well-done lgbt couples on the show. jesse and cesar are a married hunter couple who assist dean in a hunt in 11x19. they retire from hunting after the events of the episode
mild nsfw
the chief
the chief was literally just in for comedic relief. in 4x22, dean was sent to a bdsm club for a hunt as a joke, where the chief asks for his safeword. thats literally it thats all they did with him. you never see him again after that. his real name is unknown
max + stacy (MY BABIES)
max and stacy are a teen sapphic couple from season 14, shown in 14x13 and 14x16. max clearly has a crush on her, and in their last appearance she and stacy hold hands as they walk down a sidewalk. they both survive
oops accidentally pressed send tweet early. anyway im gonna continue on as normal
stevie
stevie is a hunter from an alternate universe who appears in 15x03 and 15x19 as charlie's girlfriend. in the latter episode, she has a brief scene with charlie before she disappears with the rest of the world and is never seen again. its insinuated that she is revived
gilda
gilda is another character that charlie is seen with. she appears in 8x11 and is saved from a curse by charlie, where they're shown kissing afterward. they don't ever show her again
kristen + siobhan
kristen and siobhan are two high school students who take part in a supernatural musical in 10x05, playing castiel and dean respectively. they both survive and aren't mentioned again
okay! let's move on to more major characters
charlie bradbury
charlie is a recurring character from season 7-10. she's openly a lesbian and is seen with women on numerous occasions, and also portrayed in a positive light. charlie ends up being murdered and dumped into a bath tub (boy do i wish i was joking)
au charlie
this character is still charlie, although not the original one. she appears from s13-15 and is brought in from an alternate universe, just like stevie had been. she survives
rowena macleod
rowena is a another recurring character who appears from season 10-15. rowena isnt ever confirmed to be lgbtq on screen, but there is a deleted scene where they reveal that she and charlie had been together at some point. she sacrificed herself to save sam and dean
the first scene shown proves their relationship but also id recommend watching this video with an adblocker since the creator of it is a notoriously bad person
chuck shurley
chuck is god, and he's the primary enemy of season 15. he first appears in season 4 and is recurring all the way up until season 15. he mentions that he'd been with men and women, and this would be good rep if he wasn't literally the biggest enemy of the show
okay, on to main characters:
crowley
crowley appeared from seasons 5-12. he's rowena macleod's son, a demon and the former king of hell. crowley is very openly pansexual, taking different vessels and sleeping with men and women. he'd also had orgies with dean involved. he committed suicide to save sam + dean
this hardly scratches the surface of the injustice done to crowley's character and mark sheppard himself, so id recommend looking into that a little more if you have the time
claire novak + kaia nieves
claire and kaia were supposed to be two primary characters of the wayward sisters spin off. kaia is thought to be dead after a trip to another universe gone wrong, where its revealed that she was claire's first love. kaia is revealed to be alive and +
ends up returning to claire. their fate is unknown but its implied they had a happy ending, although kaia was thought to be dead for a long while.
claire appears from season 4 to season 15
kaia appears from season 13 to 15
castiel
castiel appears from season 4 to 15. he'd been queer coded for a LONG while, his character replacing someone who was supposed to be dean's love interest. in season 15, he confesses his love to dean and immediately dies. he's never shown again.
dean winchester
dean has appeared in every episode of supernatural. at the beginning of the show, he'd often comment that he was straight, however there have been clips of him checking men out. in the spanish dub of 15x18, dean responds to castiel's romantic "i love you" with +
"i love you too, cas." two episodes later, he's impaled on a piece of rebar and bleeds out.
sam winchester
sam has also appeared in every episode. while he was never explicitly confirmed to be lgbt on screen, jared has confirmed that his spouse at the end could be of any gender identity and sam goes by he/they pronouns
jack kline
just like sam, jack hasn't ever been explicitly confirmed to be lgbt on screen, but there was a point where alex calvert posted a picture of a form jack had filled out with the gender being written as "N"
some things i missed:
i missed a few minor lgbt characters, primarily because they were either so minor i couldn't even get information on them or because i just completely forgot about them
id also like to add on that charlie bradbury was killed by a NAZI after robbie thompson begged the writing team not to kill her off.
of every queer character on spn, the most common cause of death is usually self-inflicted, most characters are minor and only stick around for a single episode, and they're notorious for being used for comedic relief.
dean and castiel had also been very apparently censored, since the spanish dub proves that dean would have had to reciprocate in the original cut. you know, before the episode where castiel confesses was renamed from "the truth" to "despair"
the point of this thread is to show that yeah, supernatural does have gay characters, but they do NOT handle them well. i could easily go on long rants about any of these characters about everything they've done wrong, but this is a more general thing.
dont stop talking about this. don't let anyone tell you that this is okay when we've had to watch so many queer characters die or be treated as a joke. #TheySilencedThem and #TheySilencedUs
another addition someone brought up: supernatural killed a gay man to save dean. http://supernaturalwiki.com/Marshall_Hall
