I saw an article floating around a few days ago about how founding teams have to be co-located (even sometimes co-living) to be successful and I'm still having feelings about it.
Does living in a summer camp with computers sound fun? Maybe. But limiting yourself to a team of people who are willing to live like that is going to limit your team more than remote ever could.

It also shows a huge lack of imagination about what remote working can be like.
At @murmur (pre-launch team of three), we often work together for several hours a day in an @around_hq call. Sometimes we're focused and quiet, sometimes we're chatting and collaborating. It's like being in an office but better: no commute, comfy clothes, free to work how I want.
Working in @figmadesign on an @around_hq call has fundamentally changed the way that I work and made me a better designer. I work collaboratively in a way that I haven't been able to before. It's better than someone looking over your shoulder, and I don't get video call fatigue.
We regularly get more done in an hour than I would have gotten done in days at any of the companies I've worked at before, in office or remote. And we're not being work machines, we get to know one another and have fun too.
I can honestly say I'm doing some of the best work of my life and having the most fun while doing it, and I can't imagine trying to replicate that in an office.

Besides, I wouldn't be able to pick up and relocate to Colorado to try even if I wanted to.
I've worked remotely and in offices and startup incubators. The biggest difference is how willing you are to cultivate an environment where people can do their best work and give them the tools to do so.

You don't need a house with a whiteboard for that.
I swear people who are so obsessed with the idea of inventing the future are the worst at imagining that there are ways to create it that don't involve 19 year olds at a hacker house 🙄
