2020 has been a crazy year to be a documentary photographer.

From the Coronavirus lockdown to Black Lives Matter and Extinction Rebellion demonstrations, I captured just under 12,000 images this year. 📸🔥

Here are some of my favourites: THREAD 👇⬇️
📅 JANUARY • KEYNSHAM

Local Extinction Rebellion groups from Bath, Bristol and surrounding villages come together to protest the proposed expansion of Bristol Airport. ✈️🚫
📅 FEBRUARY • BRISTOL

Greta Thunberg marches through a cold and rainy Bristol with an estimated 30,000 supporters, calling on governments to take action against climate change. 🌍🌡️

(She catches me taking her photo.)
📅 MAY • LONDON ROAD, BATH

Extinction Rebellion activists call on the public and leaders to #BuildBackGreen after the pandemic, as road traffic reaches record lows in many cities during lockdown. 🚗👎
📅 3rd JUNE • CENTRAL BATH

A small #BlackLivesMatter march marks the killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis days earlier. Local people of colour share their experiences with a diverse crowd outside the Guildhall, before the group marches to kneel at the Royal Crescent. ✊
📅 6th & 7th JUNE • BRISTOL & BATH

Larger protests take place in Bath and Bristol as the global Black Lives Matter movement picks up pace.

In Bristol, on Sunday 7th, the statue of Edward Colston is pulled down. Robert, a young black man, climbs to stand on its plinth. ✊
📅 16th JULY • PULTENEY BRIDGE, BATH

At the crack of dawn, Extinction Rebellion activists in kayaks attach banners to the iconic Georgian landmark in the centre of Bath, drawing the attention of tourists.

They read: 'Climate Crisis / We're Up Sh*t Creek / Build Back Better'
📅 11th AUGUST • BATH

As the pandemic continues and live entertainment remains closed, theatres and venues across the country light up red in a signal of distress and an urgent plea for government support. 🎭⚠️
📅 16th AUGUST • BRISTOL

Further Black Lives Matter protests continue in Bristol, organised by the @AllBlackLivesUK branch. Thousands gather on College Green and at Castle Park in a continued show of solidarity, sharing experiences and discussing paths for positive change.
📅 28th AUGUST • A4, NEAR BATH

In the early hours, local Extinction Rebellion activists hang banners on bridges over the busy A4 dual carriageway just outside Bath, a sign motorists couldn't ignore. 🪧
📅 29th AUGUST • BRISTOL HARBOURSIDE

Extinction Rebellion occupies Bristol's harbour area for several days of peaceful actions and community engagement. There are some familiar faces.

An activist climbs the iconic cranes outside M Shed, under the watchful eye of the Police. 🌍
📅 1st - 3rd SEPTEMBER • WESTMINSTER, LONDON

Extinction Rebellion groups from across the UK once again meet to protest at Parliament. Vast crowds occupy the streets of Central London and thousands are arrested. Public and police tempers fray and tensions run high throughout.
📅 1st NOVEMBER • BRISTOL

Black Lives Matter protests continue. Thousands come out in the pouring rain to march from College Green to Castle Park in solidarity. Such protests continue almost weekly, some six months after George Floyd's death ignited a global movement.
...and of course, throughout 2020, the Covid lockdown has affected all of us and presented us with a 'new normal' to which to adjust our daily lives. 🏠🔒

Confined to our own homes for weeks, community spirit blossomed in so many unexpected ways in the early weeks of lockdown.
What a year it's been.
