Here’s my experience @CostcoUK in Croydon, on Saturday 21st of Nov - a thread:
So there was a bit of a queue as expected due to lockdown. I was patiently waiting with my girlfriend (who’s also brown). Due to previous experiences my whole life, I had a feeling that I was going to get questioned for something. We noticed everyone in front of us was Caucasian
So I said to my girl, “watch me get stopped”. THOSE WERE MY EXACT WORDS
White male worker for @CostcoUK at the front of the queue: “can I see your membership”
Without hesitating I had my membership already in my hand so I put it right upon man’s face and said “why stop me and no one else?” Bearing in mind this is a queue that lets about 10 customers in at a time, so everyone is rushing in
Man had the AUDACITY to lie to my face and say “no I was asking everyone”. LYING TO MANS FACE UNO
I just said whatever and walked in. The point of this thread is to raise awareness on covert racism that we as people of colour experience.
