Much has been said about #SR2020 but @RishiSunak’s settlement could be a hugely important milestone in the digitisation of public services. Here is why 1/10
First up "£33 million to enable http://gov.uk  to provide..better, more personalised public services” and “32 million to develop a consistent way of signing into government services online.” Hits problems highlighted in the @GovernSmarter report https://www.governsmarter.org/discussion-papers
Then “up to £17 million in 2021-22 to support the exploitation of government owned intangible assets by launching a new unit and fund to scout for and develop government ‘knowledge assets’ (IP, data, R&D, tech and other intangibles)" 3/10
#SR20 “will also provide continued investment in the National Cyber Security Programme, funding transformational cyber security projects to support government departments, the private sector and wider society" 4/10
@FCDOGovUK get " an additional £14 million non-ODA investment for a new IT system to enable the newly formed department to operate as effectively and efficiently as possible, supporting the delivery of the UK’s development and diplomacy objectives around the globe.” Overdue 5/10
Probably the biggest intervention is the “£559 million to support the modernisation of technology across the health and care system" which will hopefully deliver a digitally-enabled healthcare system. 6/10
I’m excited by £4.6 million for "open regulation” to “test processing and enriching business regulation into machine readable data and making it publicly available to enable third parties to develop tools that help businesses identify and comply with regulatory obligations" 7/10
£9.6 million for a “pilot designed to improve the cross-departmental evidence base and use of data to inform policy decisions and service delivery for children and young people" is money well spent. What did we do before?!?!? 8/10
Maybe this “£20.0 million...to test ways to improve the social inclusion of people leaving prison, and reduce reoffending" will help bring technology into a paper-based, in-person environment. 9/10
This too could become very important as the current procurement system clearly isn’t working: "£4.1 million to create simpler and more flexible procurement rules". 10/10
