It was a good #SpendingReview for the #Homelessness & #RoughSleeping team at @mhclg. But then, when we're facing an #economicemergency it needed to be. #Covid19 and its fallout has had a big impact on #Homelessness, #councils, and #charities 1/7
Today, the Chancellor confirmed his commitments from #Budget2020 for the #RoughSleeping Accommodation Programme ( #RSAP) and for funding to tackle the #addiction and #substancemisuse that impacts people experiencing #homelessness in 2021/22 2/7
It was the accelerated portion of #RSAP (£131m) together with £105m Next Steps Accommodation Programme ( #NSAP), and emergency grants to #councils that underpinned #EveryoneIn - 15k people brought in during first lockdown, an amazing effort 3/7
The Chancellor has announced an additional £151m for interventions to tackle #roughsleeping in 2021/22 - including specific work to address the challenge of #prison to #community transition, ensuring people are not discharged from the #criminaljustice system to the street 4/7
And - because it's so important that our #strategies and #policy work are #evidencebased - £4m will be available for #research & #evaluation, to establish "what works" 5/7
These fiscal events don't just happen. Well done to all my colleagues at @MHCLG who have worked tirelessly to state the case so passionately and forcefully that #homelessness & #roughsleeping must remain a priority for this government and our society. 6/7
We're in for another busy year... but after a 2020 full of exceptional efforts from this department, and from our friends and colleagues across government, and in #councils, #charities, #housing providers, and #research bodies I know we will rise to the challenge. 7/7
