I’m requesting a white ally to back me up in this. If you understand why it’s offensive for white people to share how frictionless their job searches are WHILE adding an ending note that implies that their experience is accessible to all of us, can you explain to them why?
No one is saying that you don’t work hard or you don’t deserve a job. No one is complaining about you sharing your story. It’s the, “if I could do it, anyone can” with no acknowledgement of your privileges that pisses people off.
I just saw someone share that they failed the technical interview, didn’t know the language, had no experience and still got the callback for a final interview (believe in yourself).
They got offended when it was pointed out that their experience isn’t shared by people who pass technical interviews, have education, and have experience. Objectively qualified people are hitting brick walls in the engineering job search.
