i'm just gonna say it. i'm very uncomfortable with the energy on the timeline yesterdayi agree that ppls grievances are not best expressed in comments on fics, but some of y'all are so quick to dismiss salient points just bc it's inconvenient for YOUR feelings about a character

if you're close with me, you likely know i have complex feelings about flip. he makes me uncomfortable often, especially how many ppl thirst over him (&his guns??) without a second thought. in short, Blackkklansman was hard for me to watch & it was a racially traumatic experience

i'm not here to tell people who/who not to write fic about. but when a Black person says "you're centering thirst for a white man in a narrative about racism," your first instinct should not be to defend yourself or your non-Black feelings. i have seen no complexity to folks'-

statements on this topic thus far - it's just been "they're a bitch".

again, NO they should not have commented that on people's fics. i NEVER condone hate comments. BUT i also think some ppl are a bit too quick to dismiss the implications of this issue to absolve their guilt.

you can thirst for flip AND admit he's canonically a white jewish cop who turned a blind eye to racism. i'm all for a "hes a private detective now!" AU, but burying the complicated realities of the film can feel to me a bit like not acknowledging its message: the system is broken

i've written for flip upon request, and it's been some of the hardest writing i've ever done bc it was so hard for me to compartmentalize my negative association w/ him from my attraction to his actor.

i feel weird talking about it, bc i know so many ppl just don't wanna hear it

again NO ONE DESERVES HATEFUL COMMENTS. what we DO deserve is to make room for BIPOC to speak up about issues and discomforts instead of creating an environment where those concerns are dismissed & shut down.
