What's going to be frustrating over the next few years is going to be watching the narrative about the Trump Administration center on incompetence rather than cruelty and racism. White people are gonna have an easier time calling him dumb than grappling with their complicity...
So they'll concoct a history in which Donald Trump was a bumbling idiot whose intellectual shortcomings disqualified him for the presidency rather than confronting the fact that white supremacy propelled him into office and, save a pandemic, it might've kept him there...
My fear is that the lesson that we're going to take away from the Trump Era is going to be that incompetence is a bigger political albatross than overt white supremacy and someone's going to just find a way to be a smarter racist and rebrand Trumpism through that prism...
If we don't confront the fact that the damage caused by the Trump Administration and their commitment to white supremacy as a governing theory are inextricably linked and that racism is a far more unacceptable political flaw than stupidity although both are disqualifying.
