It’s Thanksgiving, so annual talk about if you’ll be dining w someone with an ED (CW):
People often get that if you have an addiction, it’s for life, but not that it’s the same for eating disorder recovery. Except, you can’t just refrain; in fact, that’d be an issue.

Large food-centered events can be a MAJOR trigger. Learn the warning signs & how to support someone who is struggling. The holidays can be hard for everyone, but can be a disaster for folks with EDs. My top reminders:
-do NOT talk about your weight/figure
-do NOT using phrasing that makes food sound sinful (eg “I’ll have to jog extra tomorrow to cancel this out!”)
-DO ask for permission to hug/touch someone (evergreen but someone feeling your body can be a trigger)

-do NOT question someone’s food choices. They don’t want pie or second helpings? That’s okay; if you push them into it, they may relapse.
-DO try to add activities not involving food (eg playing football or board games)
-DO be patient & nonjudgmental
