This cut to the #UKAid budget is a political choice and will barely make a difference to national finances. It will however have a huge impact on the UK's life-saving programmes currently supporting marginalised people around the world. 2/4
The commitment to spend 0.7% of GNI on aid is enshrined in law and honouring this was in the Conservative party manifesto. Going back on it now also makes it harder to meet promises to fight for girls' right to education and ending preventable deaths of mothers and children. 3/4
With the UK hosting the presidency of the #G7 and #COP26 next year, there is a spotlight on our actions. The UK should be setting a good example to other counties that reflects partnership, collaboration and a commitment to a just recovery from the pandemic. 4/4
