So a few days ago I had a conversation with a former coworker who lives in CA. Intelligent; nice guy; not a Trump supporter or a QAnon devotee... but a Covid doubter. “I don’t wear a mask”. He says. “It’s all bullshit”.
“I don’t know anyone who’s had it”, he tells me. “And I live in a place with no mandatory restrictions and I know thousands of people”.
I told him that I lived w/ 2 doctors who work on Covid wards. That my husband has been in hospital and seen them himself; how they look like they’re at death’s door. I could’ve added that one of the doctor’s grandfather died of it. Also a doctor. Patient Zero in his native
country infected him and he died.
“I hope at least you wash your hands thoroughly!” I say, worried about this guy.

“I do”. he says.
“And I wear a mask”.
“???” I think.
“I believe there’s a virus, it’s just been overblown.”
Honestly this seems like a climb-down from his earlier pronouncement that it’s “all bullshit”.

I said I’d look into it further because it’s always healthy to hold room for doubts about your own beliefs.
I don’t know what the point of this thread is other than to say I hope he is going to be ok, physically and mentally...

and that I don’t really know how to convince someone the restrictions, masks etc are necessary.
