Prof Mahmood YAKUBU and the “Stolen 850m”.
I took a decision not to take Twitter too seriously which accounts for my “everything na cruise style”. My new look blog will soon be unveiled where you can read hard stuff. Idiots like Akunna reinforce my decision as right.
How people feel so comfortable to concoct lies, malicious ones at that aimed at damaging the integrity of others beat me hollow. And this idiot is supposed to be a journalist. Rubbish! That’s why CNN in America is more believable than our own media: Most are for sale.
Ordinarily, I would have ignored him to wallow in his stupidity but there are many discerning persons who may drink in his stupidity which he is peddling as fact and then form opinion about an innocent man’s content of character. So, here is the fact and truth of the matter.
Shortly after his appointment as Executive Secretary of ETF ( as TETFUND was then known)in 2007, the management of UBEC approached the Fund to release the sum of 850m being the second tranche of an intervention earmarked for it by the Tetfund. Mahmood on looking at the files saw
that in the application of the 1st tranche the UBEC did not follow due process. He stopped the release insisting on UBEC accounting for every penny of the 1st tranche of 500m & that due process/open competitive bidding as required by extant laws be followed in accessing the 850m.
That was when trouble started . A company sued the UBEC and joined the Tetfund claiming that they have the EXCLUSIVE right to the award of the contract for the second tranche and no bidding should be entertained.
To cut a long story short they went to court and got a federal high court judge to order that the 850m be paid into a court account pending the determination of the substantive suit. Mahmood challenged that ruling in the appeal court and it was upturned.
This dragged on until his tenure elapsed only to resurface in the Social Media in 2011 when he was up for reappointment as "how mahmood & UBEC ES stole 750m".The @ISDMG1 served the TETFUND (under another ES) an FOI & it responded that the 850m was safely domiciled  with the CBN.
In 2013, the management of UBEC and the company came to an out of court settlement and the 850m which was for the supply of desks and seats to primary schools in Nigeria was released to the UBEC. So, what exactly is this obviously paid shameless urchin going on about?
Please, next time, get your facts right before coming to a public forum to impugn the integrity of any Nigerian but on my own, I will be advising Prof Yakubu to sue you for everything you have got as a deterrent to others. My worry is that the man is too kind and may not agree.
