I don't want to get into the WFH situation too much as I understand there's multiple sides. But I've lived paycheck to paycheck for years to remotely join the industry. I've moved to MK to be alone all year ( not works problem) but I'm wasting thousands on rent for 0 reason.
I wouldn't have ever been able to get a games industry job in London. I'm from Suffolk and never had hand outs but still recognise my privilege of having a family home I can go to. Companies having the option to WFH is all round fucking amazing.
My first games job in Cambridge offered part time hours across days ( so you basically had to be rich/already live in Cambridge) or full time which stretched across hours to 10pm. Transport? Games Industry financial barrier is high, I think we all know that. It's difficult.
WFH means that kid in *insert random village here* can actually apply, without sinking into debt for their dreams. That's good.
