For the last several years, I’ve wanted to kick off an award show that was specifically designed for Philadelphia podcasting. So much so that I’ve researched how different organizations run their awards—from other independent audio awards to make awards (namely the Oscars).
However, I just don’t think there’s a way to do it without there being hurt feelings left on the table somewhere. And I don’t want to be the one that does that, especially in the Philadelphia podcasting community where I’m friendly with a several shows.
Beyond being friendly with some shows, I consider many creators in the area IRL friends who I’d do (almost—we all have our lines!) anything for. And I definitely don’t want to be the person that organized a whole show that ends up hurting one of them.
This is all to say that my idea to honor Philadelphia podcasting ended up not being great. It took about 4-5 years of research to come to this conclusion. Sometimes your ideas can be 🔥 and other times they may end up being 💩. And, it’s OK. It sucks, but it’s OK.
It’s OK, because there are other ways to honor my friends and my community—what seems like failure can lead to other great ideas. While I’m not entirely sure what those ideas are yet, I’ve got several in the pot. To quote Kevin Smith “Failure is success training”.
If you’ve made it through to the end of this thread—thank you for indulging the random morning thoughts of a Philadelphia’s most mediocre creator! Take that “Failure is success training” quote with you where ever you go—it’s something that helps me.
We all will fail and fail and fail many more times. Then we’ll get it right. Take moment to accept that failure. To live in that failure. To allow that failure to make you stronger. And try again. (yes, I quoted Campaign: Star Wars).
