I think i always harbored some resentment towards it, but this pandemic has really made me detest the meritocratic pressure to "be productive" and exposed just how absurd it is

If I hear another prof tell us "be sure to not slack off during xmas" after this hell year i will snap
According to our students councils survey, this pandemic has on average doubled the workload of the student body, as instructors and profs feel more confident in giving students more tasks due to home officing and the increased time you supposedly have from it
Let that sink in for a moment.

In these exceptional times, when many of us have lost loved ones and are at mental low points, the FIRST thought that this garbage system instilled on people is "okay how do we keep productivity high'
You can even see it in more informal aspects: on youtube, the "how to STOP BEING LAZY and INCREASE PRODUCTIVITY" genre of videos has exploded, and while some are certainly well meaning in nature, its still indicative of a fundamental misunderstanding of our needs imo
We've been trained to crave productivity for productivitys sake - no end goal, no actual palpable purpose. We've been convinced that our lives only have value and dignity thru productivity and this pandemic has, to me at least, revealed just how deep this idiocy has taken root
Anyway good morning
