No bystander CPR before the arrival of paramedics. In a privately funded hospital. Harrowing evidence at Joanna Bailey's inquest.
The nurse put a pulse oximeter on Joanna's finger. There was no CPR. @JeesalGroup you are utterly, utterly shameful.
Joanna had sleep apnoea but her mask was placed out of reach behind her bed. These places are simply killing fields.
One of the 'defence' barristers is actually questioning why the paramedic attempted CPR.
'She was still warm to the touch, she was young and I thought we should give her a chance'. Monstrous defence.
The coroner has stopped the line of questioning around rigour mortis and given the paramedic permission not to answer. Sense.
The @JeesalGroup legal bod is also going down the 'she was already dead' route. What sort of a defence is this?
'If she was in less than perfect health and not found for 10 minutes the chance of recovery would be negligible?' No words.
So @JeesalGroup who make £ms providing appalling care are effectively arguing a patient shouldn't have been resuscitated as she was in poor health.
Seeing the stark contrast between spot on paramedic care and the revolting actions of the provider barrister is chilling.
Ah, the mask was out of reach because it was broken. £4-12k a week and a broken mask is apparently fine. @JeesalGroup
Two support workers waited in the room for the nurse to come. They didn't even look for a pulse.
They didn't even call for an ambulance.
I hope someone @ianbirrell @ShaunLintern @RachelSkyNews @JayneMcCubbinTV are following this inquest. It captures everything that is wrong.
The nurse told them to do CPR, the support worker said 'You have to do it'. The nurse said she couldn't. No one did it. School children are taught CPR.
All the radios were on charge and they were short staffed by two support workers that night.
The support worker giving evidence didn't know where the emergency bag was kept.
Her witness statement said Joanna was stiff, now she says she can't remember how she knew this. It was a long time ago.
Now the (fuckers) @JeesalGroup counsel. The support worker says she was wearing a poncho on the CCTV because it was cold on the unit.
She did her observations by listening to snoring rather than going into rooms. £4k-£12k a week.
The snore observations were recorded at some time later on a tablet so there was no accurate observation records.
Counsel: There may be the odd occasion when wifi connections mean the recording can't be done? 'Yeah, that happens a lot.'
Classy @JeesalGroup counsel chucking support worker under the bus. Again, random defence. The buck stops with you.
Support worker is now saying if she'd been asked to do CPR she would have done it. Why did you decide not to?
'I froze, to be honest.'
The coroner has sent the jury out to recheck the CCTV tape. Devastating evidence. Her family must be in pieces.
Jury questions for the support worker: Was it recorded in the care plan that Joanna was prompted to wear a sleep mask? 'I can't remember.'
Were you told that Joanna could make decisions herself including wearing the mask? 'I can't remember/yes.'
Is there some procedure about getting permission to do CPR? No.
Is there any CCTV footage to show you stopped outside Joanna's room and looked in? No. She heard her snoring.
Could she have refused to take her medication? Once again mental capacity failures on full display. Totally clueless.
Why are you saying she had capacity to decide to take her medication? 'Well she could make a decision whether she wanted to or not.' That's why. [Gnawing on my fists here]
Good set of Qs from the jury who are clearly on point. What was the layout of Joanna's room?
Coroner is trying to pin down whether Joanna was told about the importance of wearing her mask. Like wading through treacle. [It was broken anyway.]
Staff nurse evidence now. Hard hat time I suspect if a registered nurse is unable to do CPR.
What nursing duties do you do? 'Giving medication and other nursing duties.' Sweet baby cheesus.
Joanna had a pseudo seizure the day before she died. Like Connor never had proper epilepsy like mainstream kids.
Because it was a pseudo seizure she was left on general obs. The similarities with what happened to Connor are chilling.
The Coroner asks questions that would apply to the rest of us...' Did you go and check on her when you came on duty (because of the seizure)?'
I walked around the unit, yes. 😥
I'm putting it out there that this is not a 'registered' nurse. She is basing the non-use of the sleep machine from working with Joanna before.
Coroner: 'Where were you that night?' 'I was in the nursing station.' 'So how were you conducting nursing duties in the nursing station?'
Answer: billy bullshite. [Two members of staff short and the staff nurse is in the nursing station.']
Five agency staff on duty too. Where does the £4k-£12 a week go @JeesalGroup?
Wasn't it better for you to be on the ward if it was short staffed? Painful questioning by the coroner laying bare abysmal.
A support worker said he asked on 3 separate occasions for the nurse to take on obs. She refused. She had to manage agency staff.
'It was all about breaks'. Staff allocations and agency staff. And paperwork. No nursing. Fucking shameful.
'Did you know where the emergency bags were kept?' 'In those days, they didn't have a space for that.'
'Where was the emergency bag that night?' 'I don't know.' [This is the on duty staff nurse.]
Only one cordless phone was working in the nurses station and that was on charge. Down to the landline.
[The coroner is superb btw.]
'What did you do when you saw Joanna?' 'I kept saying Joanna, Joanna.' Did you check she was breathing? I was in shock.
She is not a fucking nurse.
'Did you check if she was breathing?' 'I tried to put my hand on her neck but I was shaking.' She's now claiming to have done a head tilt.
Did you check for an obstruction? Complete incoherence on display here. Coroner: Did you put the light on? [Howl]
They didn't even put the light on. Coroner: 'It would be fair to say it's a good idea to put the light on to get a better view.'
[Got a meeting shortly. I hope someone can take over the tweet batten.]
The nurse took a thermometer, a blood pressure cuff and a pulse oximeter from the clinic room.
Coroner (gently): Her blood pressure doesn't matter if she's not breathing. Surely you should have tried to get her breathing?
'I'm sorry Annitta, a pulse oximeter isn't going to tell you if somebody has a pulse.' Can someone urgently check the credentials of @JeesalGroup staff?
What did you do next? I thought we should put her on the floor to start CPR but I couldn't do it myself.
Meanwhile, the emergency services have not yet been called.
'I just thought let me go and get the other equipment [the defib and the oxygen].
'I ended up saying go and call that lady who was doing general obs...' Still no emergency call.
Lunch break.
