why salute it's one of the best albums ever made by a girlgroup the last decade. (a really necesary thread) #Confetti
first of all, I won't talk here in terms of sales, streaming or charts. it is based on creativity, production, lyrics, music videos, etc. ok let's start
this was the second studio album of @LittleMix. features 15 songs plus an unplugged version of little me. this was the first album where more notorious R&b influences were entered.
the central theme of the album was female empowerment and self-love. but not only that, they also covered deep issues such as depression, eating disorders, love breaks, friendship, among others.
girlgroups tend to be overlooked, because the world we live in, sees girlbands as a guilty pleasure, conveying nothing but simple, generic lyrics.
but why salute is so special? 🤔
because with this album they broke expectations, things that the world didn't expect to see coming from female pop groups. the album sadly had terrible reviews because they were told they wanted to be like beyoncé. but it didn't stop them from doing what they wanted to convey.
the first single was a total bop, which deserved to be a worldwide hit, since it is also among the 100 best songs made by female groups. then they released their second single Salute, which was totally female empowerment and is considered an anthem.
on the album's last official single and closing the era, they released little me, this one is about finding a way back in time and advising yourself. the music video also had another theme that was about poverty in the UK, social inequalities, racism. (+)
which makes it one of the best videos of their career in my opinion.
another thing to consider is that all 4 sing equally, no one wants to excel from the other, harmonies, high and low notes. was there and ignoring it is a crime.
as a repeater, his album has r&b influences and deep lyrics. salute, boy, good enough, these four walls. are some of the best songs.
some of lyrics from the album:

"You cannot write a book from a single page, hands on the clock only turn one way"
"i tried to eat today, but the lump in mu throat got in the way"
"Sorry for the smile I'm wearing now, guess I'm still not good enough"
postscript: it gave me cringe to write the lyrics, but I wanted to show you the types of lyrical content they possess. this happened in their 2nd year as a group.
in conclusion having good sales does not equate to a quality album, often excellent albums are overlooked because they do not generate "impact" on a large scale. I feel that to better understand this thread, is to listen to it and realize how deep it is. thank you ❣️
