Just walked into a room & met a patient in a lot of pain after a surgery this pm.

I proceeded to do my job: helped her get comfortable in her bed, ordered some medicine to relieve her pain, & held her hand while we waited for the meds to come up...
She told me she was from one of the counties in the southern part of #VA05 and I started sharing some of my favorite things about that county.

We talked about the county’s history, its beauty, and even the longstanding high school sports rivalries.
She told me that right as she had been praying for her pain to stop, I walked in the room.

I told her that it’s a blessing for me to give her some relief—to be able to help answer a prayer.

Right then, she looked up & said “Wait a minute, are you Dr. Webb from TV?”
I smiled & told her that I was just “Dr. Webb” long before we made all of those commercials.

She said, “well, I’m a Republican so I hope you won’t hold it against me!”

I told her that—when you look beyond the politics—we can all just be people trying to help each other out.
As I was leaving the room, she asked “can you sign your name on a piece of paper for me? You’ve been so kind and people are never going to believe me that you were my doctor tonight.”

A minute later, I walked back in and handed her this...
I’m filled up right now.

Not because she recognized me “from TV”...

...not because someone who voted against me expressed their appreciation...

...but because I offered care, compassion, & capability to her in a moment of need.

That’s my calling. Always was. Always will be.
