Like, I picked up a hardcover without a dust jacket of Foucault’s Pendulum by Umberto Eco at the Tivoli Library book sale in 2012, am I ever going to read that?
Similarly someone was giving away a bunch of books and I snagged a copy of Cormac McCarthy’s The Road, and you sure as hell know I’m never fucking reading THAT.
Jury is still out on whether or not I read the used copy of Dostoyevsky’s Crime and Punishment I bought at Myopic Books in May 2018
I did however purchase Colson Whitehead’s “Zone One,” Morisson’s “A Mercy” and “The Source of Self-Regard” off of a used rack in front of a bookstore I used to walk by between my apartment and campus. Rad purchases.
Jury is also still out on whether I read bell hooks’ all about love, which I purchased used from the same rack but has mixed reviews in my circles
I also purchased a signed copy of Brit Bennett’s “The Mothers” for $1 at Savers and that was 💯 a solid deal.
I randomly purchased like four Michael Ondaatje novels at the used bookstore near my place in Chicago and TBD if I’ll ever read Cat’s Cradle or the English Patient, or that book of poems I got from the Mithakali Crossword in Ahmedabad
No, owning a bunch of books is neither a politics nor a personality but it is a geography
If there was one thing I’d do differently about this thread it would be to find more synonyms for “purchased.” Thank you for coming to my dissertation defense.
