One thing that forever annoys me is how few people seem to notice the appalling bias/racism/misogyny in most cooking shows. Everybody was mad Hermine went, and rightly so. But almost no one was acknowledging that this happens *every year* in almost *every* show.

Look at the past winners of bake off. Does anybody really believe that that many young hipster white dudes and thirty something petite white blonde women are the best bakers in the country?

Come on now.

And there is almost always some far more talented, skilled and dedicated BIPOC woman baker or cook who mysteriously gets ousted like two episodes before some hipster dude wins.

Happens on the various Masterchefs, too. I can even remember some of their names, they were that good and that unfairly booted. Poe, Amina, Reynold. Ruby. Daksha. Emily.

While mediocre laddish no marks like Calum go on and on with nothing but fish and chips to their name.

And it’s not just the winners, either. It’s who makes it as finalists. Masterchef took about ten years to have an all female final. Most of the people who make it to finals are white. Look at Bake Off this year. Two white dudes and a white woman. On a baking show.

Ridiculous.

You know how I know for certain this is chicanery, too?

Because when Masterchef Professionals had Roux as a judge, I almost never got mad at it. And women went FAR. They won.

He had almost none of the same biases against women, and it SHOWED.
