Now we know, 135 LPCD of water is supplied daily for drinking, cooking, bathing, washing, flushing, gardening, floor & car wash

Water is the most essential element of life

On #WellnessWednesday let’s learn more about water we get at our taps & pledge to stop wastage
After water treatment, quality is checked to see if it is safe for domestic purposes & chlorinated, stored for supply

Extra Chlorine known as ‘Residual Chlorine’ of dose 0.2-0.5 mg/l (milligrams per litre) is ensured in water to keep it safe from contamination during conveyance
Treated water is now supplied to cities by gravity/pumping

Distribution reservoirs in cities based on demand & topography receive treated water & distribute to zones/localities, where the actual supply to houses happen through designed network ensuring equal distribution
System consist of Reservoirs, storage tanks, pumps, pipes, valves, hydraulic appurtenances, meters, taps

Requires huge electric energy, wide network of engineers, waterman, network attendants, customer care etc

Efforts r big & that is why end user’s responsibility to save water
How many of us have seen this table?

Or how many of us have checked the water bill and it’s calculation?

Apologies for missing the source in above picture.

It is from BWSSB website under tariff section. There’s a calculator too! But I’ll explain the calc for benefit of everyone
Water bill calc – Domestic sample, W/O borewell in premises

Example 1 - 8000 consumption

Upto 8000 litres – Flat rate of 7/1000 litres = ₹56
Meter Charges = ₹30 (one can choose to pay full meter charge during installation)
Sanitary charges = ₹14
Total – ₹100
Example 2 – 15000 litres consumption

Upto 8000 = ₹56
Upto 25000 = 7000 x 11 = ₹77
Meter Charges = ₹50
Sanitary charges = (56+77) * 0.25 = ₹33
Total = ₹216
Example 3 – 30000 litres consumption

Upto 8000 = ₹56
Upto 25000 = 17000 x 11 = ₹187
above 25000 = 5000 x 26 = ₹130
Meter Charges = ₹75
Sanitary charges = (56+187+)130 * 0.25 = ₹93
