we need more quiet, domestic (and literary) fantasy books and short stories. Like The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, Little, Big, The Cosmology of the Wider World, Winter Rose/Solstice Wood, The Wood Wife, Wind in the Willows, Tombs of Atuan, Tehanu, The Other Wind, etc
eg, less swords and more dealing with the human dynamics of living in a fantasy setting or portal world
I've noticed other people saying the same thing lately, and I hope it gains traction. To me, this sort of thing is far more interesting that the usual adventures
Oh! And I guess Valente's older fantasy's definately fall into the mold as well! Like The Labyrinth, and Crass Cutting Sword, and other stuff in Myths of Origin
oh, and CSE Cooney's Desdemona and the Deep!

I'm going to keep remembering books as the day goes along. I really hope I don't forget anyone
OH AND DUH

The Last Unicorn, but also A Fine and Private Place, and Giant Bones by Peter S. Beagle. As well as The Ocean at the End of the Lane by Neil Gaiman
