Not sure if cities, the state Legislature or anyone really is prepared for the absolute maelstrom lying in wait over the next couple years as Southern California and Bay Area communities have to update their local growth plans to account for new ballooning state housing goals.
More I think about this, it& #39;s clear that the state Legislature has decided that rather than significantly increase allowable homebuilding by itself, it will force cities to do it through an excruciating series of 539 individual local yearslong processes
For maelstrom context, in Berkeley there& #39;s now a bona fide dispute over an unused tennis court that was converted to a pickleball court. Just think what& #39;s going to happen when communities used to little to no growth have to plan for thousands of new homes https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/11/23/berkeley-residents-in-a-pickle-over-popular-pickleball-game/">https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/11/2...
Last thing on this for now. If you look at the half-century history of how the state& #39;s housing goal process has fared, the answer is: Not great! https://www.latimes.com/projects/la-pol-ca-housing-supply/">https://www.latimes.com/projects/...
