Kamala Harris went to Howard and Hastings. The first VP from a HBCU is a big fucking deal, as Biden would say.

POC (and women in general, I’d say) are sold that we need to credentials in order for a white-dominated world to take us seriously. A white guy can go to the University of College State but still be considered a wonk.
Hell, even when we DO have Ivy League credentials (Booker, Castro), we’re considered not as “smart” as a white guy with similar or lesser credentials (*cough* Buttigieg *cough*)
POC can get testy when we bust our ass to send our kids to the marquee schools, when we play by the rules, but then we’re told that “oh, that’s too much book learning."
My Black relatives who are very much working-class don’t have a problem with the Ivy League appointments. That’s something that Republicans make an issue with and it is directly connected to the white cultural resentment of Trumpism.
We don’t buy our way into Harvard like Kushner, for instance. We are rarely legacy. It infuriates me when the Obamas are considered somehow elitist, given what they must’ve done to get into the Ivy League. Michelle Obama’s “counselors” when she was young thought she was dreaming
