Some personal positive news of the day, a thread:

I've been doing Sidewalk Science Center in Florida for news two years (TWO YEARS ALREADY???) and throughout that time, I've had a lot of regulars.

One of these regulars is a girl whose family is homeless.
If you've followed me from before COVID, you likely saw her appear in pictures or videos of SSC. She's here quite often.

But when COVID hit, she totally vanished. Her father was still around but doesn't speak English so the few interactions I had with him were superficial.s
It was startling, to just not have her or her brother around the entire summer. I've been worried, because of the timing with COVID and knowing her situation.
At this point it's been more than 8 months since I last saw her.

Today, just a few minutes ago now, I was at the telescope.... And I heard someone call to me: look up, see a girl walking toward me with her head stuffed in a hoodie, face hidden -- and immediately knew it was her.
So yeah. This thread is more one of relief. A bit emotional bc I had no idea where she was. Apparently her extended family had taken her to Puerto Rico to wait out the summer while her dad stayed here.

I'm just relieved they're okay 😊
