It would appear what the PM said about vaccine production is partially true.

Pfizer and Moderna are mRNA vaccines and the people I spoke with say there is no manufacturer of those vaccines in Canada.
We do have a vaccine industry, several facilities, but the mRNA vaccine technology is new and is only available in a few places around the country.

The manufacturing facilities we do have are not only a different technology, but they are also booked up making flu vaccines, etc.
As it has with many issues, the government threw a bunch of money at this problem early in the pandemic. There is a facility in Saskatchewan under construction, but it won't be ready for a year at least.
The NRC facility in Montreal is also getting an expansion, to allow it to make millions of doses a month, but that won't be complete for two years.

Some money it got early in the pandemic allowed for an expansion to be able to make as many as 250,000 doses a month.
I am told, but haven't been able to confirm yet that the facility could make the AstraZeneca vaccine, one of three leading candidates, but it can't make the Pfizer or Moderna vaccines.
The message on distribution has been muddled to put it mildly and I am not 100 per cent sure why. They have figured out some of the details.

The PM said early in the crisis they wouldn't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
On vaccine distribution, they seem to be waiting until they have all the answers rather than just telling us about the parts of the plan they have figured out and assuring us they are working on the rest.
Anyways, this became more of a rant than a thread, but that happens sometimes.
