I disagree with this graphic. I’ve lived with some things in the “crisis” column for most of my life & it doesn’t mean I was in crisis. These things depend on context. Those of us who suffer deserve compassion but no assumptions should be made about how on the “brink” we are https://twitter.com/theradr/status/1331373964426440704
Also saying someone is in “crisis” can have severe implications for their autonomy, dignity, liberty etc so we must be very careful and contextual about this. It is not just a matter of seeing things differently
My symptoms come from trauma. I’ve navigated them for decades. I have brilliant coping mechanisms but still have those symptoms. I am not in crisis. It’s bad enough that some of us have to deal with this stuff but having dangerous labels imposed makes it so much worse
Also a lot of the symptoms can mean very different things to different people entirely depending on context including whether it’s familiar or brand new territory and the interplay between those symptoms and other factors (coping skills etc).
I guess I just find it ableist. We can be not okay in a chronic way and also be super awesome and amazing. I am not a blinking red light because of my PTSD and others aren’t a-okay green lights in comparisons. There is a whole bigger picture missing when we look at it this way
I’ve never been “okay” by this definition but I’ve survived all kinds of stuff that would break a lot of people and here i still am so saying I’m in crisis or functioning worse than someone who’s had the luxury of always being in the green zone is neither accurate or fair
