Let me school y'all real quick, the only times I've ever felt compelled to fucking reach for some Black Tourmaline is when I felt like people were lying to my face, manipulating me, had a motive to use me and I needed protection immediately.

Black Tourmaline does not come to you unless you are DEEP in some shit and you can't smell the shit.

You remember that Teen Titans where Blackfire comes to visit Starfire (Sisters). All of the Titans take to Blackfire, she's so charismatic, and understanding of Earth's Culture, but she's also cunning and deceptive, she does not care who she fucks over, that includes Starfire.

She drops a hint that she was "cruising through the Draconis Nebula," to which Starfire is appalled because it's forbidden to travel there. It just gives more idea about Blackfire's character, she thinks the rules don't apply to her. She is wrong as hell.

Blackfire has Starfire thinking she doesn't belong with the Titans, who are her people. Starfire no longer sees her beautiful qualities and feels as if Blackfire has taken everything from her. I mean, Blackfire was copying Starfire, wearing her clothes.

Starfire is on some Eight of Cups time and tries to leave without saying anything.

Basically the wrong people around you will have you blocking your own blessings because Starfire does belong with the Titans. Robin basically affirms this, he's their leader and her love interest.

Blackfire makes the mistake of thinking she is smarter than any of the Titans, but her worst mistake is thinking she's more smarter than Starfire who knows how their powers work.

Blackfire ultimately frames Starfire for stealing a Centauri Moon diamond, which is why Starfire, who would never do those things, is attacked by Centauri Police through the episode. Robin figures this out after Starfire is attacked again. Blackfire left hints to her wrongdoing.

Blackfire and Starfire fight over this by the end of the episode and Blackfire ends up going to jail for her crimes because she's blindsided. Blackfire used Starfire as a scapegoat for the wrong SHE was doing.

This is the type of shit Black Tourmaline protects you from.

So Black Tourmaline can be used for psychic protection from spiritual attacks, narcissistic abuse (gaslighting, triangulation, smear campaigns), and it keeps you rooted in who it is that you are so you don't get lost in what someone put in your ear.
