I realized it’s been months since I talked about this, but with the growing number of hospitals who are over-capacity this is very important to repeat:

If you don’t already own a pulse oximeter, PLEASE purchase one ASAP. https://amzn.to/36Y8H6k
A pulse oximeter is the only accurate way to determine the difference between “it feels like I can’t really breathe” vs. “I’m not getting enough oxygen and I am in danger.”

Having that info will not only offer invaluable peace of mind if you’re unwell, it’s does so much more.
It actually lessens the burden on our hospital system for you to own one. Instead of doctors needing you to come in to triage you, you will be able to accurately offer them the info they need *from home,* and they’d only need you come in if you need to be admitted.
And with the growing hospital shortages, at some point owning one may be the best way to ensure you can even GET care. You’re far likelier to get their attention if rather than calling in with “It feels hard to breathe” you can call in with “I have a pulse ox in the mid 80s.”
So if you don’t already own one, please please please consider ordering one today. It’s one small part you can do to lessen the strain on the hospital system AND to protect yourself and your family.
