Moments of crisis, like #COVID19, are moments of cultural compression...Moments when values and beliefs of a group are more easily identified and then shaped.

Moments that can tell organizations an awful lot about who we are, what matters most, and who we might become. #EDAC2020
It turns out that psychological safety, the ability for team members to take interpersonal risks, is critical for groups to do their work. In moments of crisis we can clearly see when psychological safety is intact....and...when it is not.

So...how might we shape an organizational culture that fosters psychological safety so that we can be our best during crisis, but perhaps even more importantly during normal times??? #EDAC2020
There is no magic bullet but translational simulation may have a role.

We can use sim to target knowledge, processes, and environments ( @petrosoniak and @HumanFact0rz are experts here)...BUT we can also use it as an approach to shape values, beliefs, and relationships.

For example...by implementing a regular program helping teams troubleshoot getting to the CT-Scanner "Fast and Safe" we uncovered the best person to lead that team might be the Porter....this magnified the value that EVERY member of the team is valued and important. #EDAC2020
Deliberate/consistent sim debriefing over years by the amazing Sim Team @GC_Health has demonstrated how to have reflective conversations. Now, many groups lead their own "After Action Reviews"-living a belief that we can always get 1% better...

Longitudinal simulation programs that cross traditional organizational interfaces do more then just iron out processes - we found that they build trusting relationships between often disparate groups...

Translational sim is not a panacea...rather it is one approach, that if applied thoughtfully, can be used as we face the urgent need to shape organizational culture and foster psychological safety in our ED teams during #COVID19 and beyond. #EDAC2020
