What's happening in LA today shows why pandemic-related curfews are misguided, confusing, and potentially harmful.

LA is shutting down outdoor dining, not because restaurants are unsafe, but because different households gather at them, which is responsible for the uptick in cases.

So now we have elected officials promoting curfews as a "solution," which erodes trust in public health.

Right now at this moment we have motions being simultaneously introduced in both LA City Council ( @MRodCD7) and LA County Board of Supervisors ( @kathrynbarger) to ignore public health guidance and keep outdoor dining open.

County health officials including Dr. Ferrer just gave gut-wrenching testimony on LA's dire situation, carefully explaining how dining restrictions would reduce transmission rates.
They recommend moving to takeout only for three weeks as part of a modified stay-at-home order.
