Today is my last day with SYFY FANGRRLS. In fact, it’s SYFY FANGRRLS’ last day period. To say I am proud of the work we’ve done over the last few years is a massive understatement.
The work we’ve done has been powerful, and brave, and honest, and silly, and thoughtful, and nonsensical, and everything in between and beyond. And every single piece was in the exact voice we wanted — ours.
To our writers, thank you thank you thank you for allowing me to put my grubby hands on your work. Thank you for your trust, your faith, and your incredible immense talent.
To my fellow editors — @runwithskizzers @carlylane @NerdHeather — you have been my family. You are talented, yes, but you are also good. Good people with the greatest hearts. To work alongside you every day has been a joy, a privilege.
Finally, to @thecherness. Thank you for creating this space. This perfect, perfect space. A space that if it can’t live on my computer will live in my heart forever. Thank you for allowing me to ride this ride with you, thank you for trusting me, thank you for everything.
Do I have big feelings about the choice to end this specific space, one that amplified, celebrated, and paid marginalized voices? I SURE DO! But that’s for another thread. This one is about gratitude. And I have a lot.
I don’t know what my next step is (if you have a next step I might be right for, let me know!). Right now, I’m quarantining with my babies, talking to Jules about MLP and trying to scrape peanut butter off of Jack, and trying to make the holidays something magical for them.
I’ll be back. I always come back. In the darkest times of my life, these words always rang in my head: “I’ll be OK. I’m always OK. I can’t not be OK.” And I will be.
