If you leave this country, denouncing your British citizenship, to join a death cult or foreign body to activity plot, carry out, or be complicit in terrorism, you are no longer British. The country you carried out these crimes is where you should be tried and punished. (Thread)
Unless the country of origin specifically requests an extradition.
"But she (Begum) should be brought back to face trial here, as she's a British citizen." is the argument of some. I disagree with this because:
1. She is a national security threat, she could influence..
...more domestic terrorism, be a hero to British unknown jihadists, and could already be involved in future plots.
2. Once the lawyers here represent her they will argue that there is no proof she actually did anything in Syria and twist it to she was a victim, thus she..
...will probably hardly serve any time, as it would be nearly impossible to find out or prove what this woman did there. Then point 1 is back in play, and we already know how these people play the system and upon release commit heinous acts.
3. De-radicalisation is a myth, it doesn't work, as proven by the acts of terrorism in recent years where the perpetrators have been through these programmes but still carried out acts upon release.
4. If ISIS weren't defeated she would still be part of them, complicit in these heinous crimes willingly and happily.
5. How can we DISCOURGE people from joining a death cult if we allow them to denounce their British citizenship, by choosing to travel to a foreign country...
...and actively be complicit in plotting, encouraging, and taking part in terrorism and the murder of innocent people. Then welcome them back with open arms in to a justice system that fails to punish these people, and they know it.
"ANY" person who commits these heinous crimes, or complicit in them, should be left in the country they committed them, and it is on their justice system to punish these terrorists/murderers and bring them to justice, what ever justice that may be.
