When Democrats lose, there is always plenty of blame to go around, but I find it interesting that some AZ Dems who lost their races are blaming #DefundThePolice, #MedicareForAll, and every other progressive idea, as if:

(1)The Party ever adopted any of these things in its platform and
(2)Any AZ Dem actually ran on those ideas.
This critique is basic and flat out wrong. Hereâs what is real:

(1) Some Arizona Democrats wanted to run like republicans because they coveted republican votes. The gag isâŠthey lost to actual factual republicans. Blame yourselves for that weak strategy, not progressive ideas that you avoided like the âRona.
(2) Those same Ds didnât speak to anything âtoo controversialâ at a time of uprisings around race and police violence, an anti-repro zealot was appointed to the SCOTUS, and CORONAVIRUS. Your silence was, for lack of a better term, whack.
And that some of you didnât even capitalize on your opponentsâ foibles was just bad campaign strategy, not progressive ideas spoiling your race.
(3)Some candidates didnât effectively use digital or social media as part of their campaign strategy, especially at a time when traditional methods like canvassing and in-person events were dangerous. You didnât change course when necessary.
(4) Arizona, like every other state, has racism, sexism, and every other form of bigotry, and that bigotry impacts elections.
(5) And I hear some of you are still mad because Planned Parenthood Advocates asked you to give your police money back. We literally asked you to #RefundThePolice, not include defund messaging (which you wouldnât have done anyway). In fact, PPAA hasnât even adopted defund.
But it didn't go unnoticed that some of you remained silent during the ACB hearings AFTER we'd endorsed and contributed to your races.
So, when doing our final post-election analyses, there will be plenty of fingers to point, but y'all need to point some of them back at yourselves. You didn't run on, talk about, or believe in progressive values, so placing the blame there feels disingenuous.
If your firmly believe that progressive values ruined the day for you, that's a YOU problem.
