@KYHSHistory Sad news from the Hart County News Herald: Terry Compton, a Horse Cave native & basketball great, passed away on November 22 after a battle with COVID-19.
During his senior year in 1970, Compton led Hart County High School to a 35-2 record & was 1st team All State.
He was one of the most highly recruited prospects that former Vanderbilt University Coach Roy Skinner ever signed.
He led every team in scoring that he ever played on from eighth grade until he graduated from Vanderbilt.
Compton, whose sharp long-range shooting earned him the nickname "The Long Rifle", scored 1,326 career points while at Vanderbilt. He played in an era when freshmen were not eligible & there was no 3-point shot. He was SEC first team for 3 years.
Terry Compton was 68 years old.
